Yala Safari
Overview
Safaris are the main attraction, typically conducted in open-topped 4WD jeeps with an expert guide.
You can book a safari through various operators for half-day (morning or afternoon) or full-day tours. Leopard Spotting: Yala has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, making it an excellent place to spot these elusive big cats.
The early morning and late afternoon "golden hours" offer the best chances for sightings. Other Mammals: The park is home to 44 species of mammals, including Sri Lankan elephants, sloth bears, wild water buffalo, spotted deer, and jackals. Bird Watching: Over 200 bird species can be found here, including both resident and migratory birds like the Black-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant, and various pelicans and eagles.
